PhD Opportunities 2025 at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz: The Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) is accepting applications for three fully funded PhD positions as part of the DFG Research Training Group, “Particle Detectors for Future Experiments – From Concept to Operation.” This program provides aspiring researchers with an opportunity to contribute to advancements in particle detection technology.

Eligibility Criteria

  • A Master’s degree or diploma in Physics
  • Research experience in at least one of the following areas:
    • Scintillators
    • Detector electronics
    • Hardware programming
  • Knowledge of nuclear, particle, or astro-particle physics
  • English proficiency at B2 level or higher for non-native speakers

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit their applications by January 23, 2025, including:

  • A detailed CV
  • A motivation letter outlining research interests and previous experience
  • University transcripts (translated into English or German if necessary)
  • Proof of English proficiency for non-English/German degree holders
  • Two letters of recommendation from senior scientists (at least one from outside the applicant’s current institution)
