The American Psychological Foundation (APF)‘s Queen-Nellie Evans Scholarship 2025 is now accepting applications. It will be dedicated to reducing disparities in societal structures and matters that disproportionately affect communities of color, particularly those of African descent. The preference goes with candidates who are:

  • Preparing for careers in academia, clinical service delivery, or public policy.
  • Aiming to improve conditions for marginalized communities post-graduation.
  • Belonging to the communities they intend to serve.
  • Possessing prior experience in serving marginalized communities.

History of APF Queen-Nellie Evans Scholarship:

Jr. Arthur Evans, a Ph.D., established the Queen and Nellie Evans Fund in memory of his grandmother and mother. Evans, a clinical and community psychologist and healthcare innovator, is currently the CEO and executive vice president of the American Psychological Association.

Evans has done fantastic work as the commissioner of Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services to empower historically marginalized individuals and communities. He has received national and international recognition for his efforts. In 2015, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy named him an Advocate for Action. AFP has been able to provide financial assistance to graduate students who are dedicated to improving the lives of marginalized communities.
